Hurworth Burn Reservoir to Crookfoot Reservoir
May 2021

A wander between two reservoirs.

At 15K this was one of the longer walks, but not too far away for Tiggy to travel, just a little oop north near Wingate. Parking at Hurworth Burn Railway Path Car Park it was a clockwise loop through fields and along tracks, passing through Cole Hill Farm and visiting Crookfoot Reservoir.

Leave the car park and follow the gravel track south for a short distance through the trees. Take a left turn at Murton Blue House where the path then joins the Castle Eden Walkway. Follow the walkway for a similar distance as the previous path, before another left turn just after the trees and then through some fields. Follow a gravel track between Murton Hall Farm and East Murton Farm for a mile or so through fields and Cole Hill Farm.

Most of the route was well signposted and easy to follow…

Some routes were a little more…tricky…

And some, not so tricky…

The path joins Coal Lane where the route tuns right and follows the lane for a short distance before turning right onto another footpath through High Wood. At the most easterly part of the hike a pic by Winterly Hill Plantation.

At a crossroad of footpaths turn right, heading west past Crookfoot Reservoir.

A couple more pics I took along the way as the route takes you west through more fields and past this pond.

A few friends we made along the way.

Travel through more fields and past the Medieval Village of Embleton until you get back to the Castle Eden Walkway. Turn right, heading north following the walkway in part, but we took a more cross country route on a footpath to the left of the walkway.
