Maes Yr Hendre holiday cottage

A week in North Wales

After a busy start to 2024 for Ruby packed with snoozing and lazing, it was decided she deserved a holiday. After a LOT of searching by Rubys mam for the perfect cottage, Maes Yr Hendre Holiday Cottage in the north of Wales near Conwy was picked.

The cottage is over 200 miles away from where we live in the north east of England so we had a stop halfway across the country to give Tiggy a rest and Ruby a picnic. Stopping at The Ribblehead Viaduct, this area itself will be a future Tiggy Tour for sure, not just a stop off.

The Ribblehead Viaduct is an iconic, massive Victorian railway bridge on the Settle-Carlisle Line in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring 24 stone arches spanning Batty Moss, known for its impressive engineering, challenging construction with significant loss of life, and as a popular spot for walkers and railway enthusiasts

After the stop off we were ready to continue on our way to North Wales. After an hour or so of boring motorways and A roads it was time to get adventuring onto single file roads as we headed to the cottage.

Our first view of the cottage.

Ruby approved of the garden and the complimentary football.

Tiggys spot for the week.

Ruby quickly picked her room and wasn’t daunted by the rug on the floor looking a lot like a grey ex-Cavapoo.

A few more pics of inside the cottage.

We had a few trips out as can be seen in the North Wales Tours links at the bottom of this page. We did have one local walk around the local area on the last day, this is the route we took, a short loop clockwise though some woods and fields.

Some pics from that walk.

After a week of chilling out, meandering around gardens, ruins, rivers, waterfalls and mountain climbing, we packed up and headed for home.

This time, to break up the long drive, we stopped off for a picnic by Torside Reservoir. Parking at the Torside Car Park (Pay and Display parking with toilets!) and following a gravel path to the picnic spot.

A couple of photos are below, I didn’t take many as my concentration went due to various stations along the way where you can listen to Brian Blessed describing the area and reservoirs.
