A long drive up the north east coast, not quite as far as the Holy Island tour. Driving through the village of Bamburgh and parking at
Bamburgh castle car park with an impressive view of the castle as you approach it.
Which only gets more imposing the closer you get.
Built on top of a black crag of volcanic dolerite, the location was previously home to a fort of the indigenous Celtic Britons. Here is a pic of the model and a diagram so you get an idea of the castles layout.
Walking up the path to the main gate.
Inside the main wall you get a view of the inner castle and the fortifications.
The inner castle with lots of decor.
...medieval decor...
...and lots of art.
