Firstly we headed up to Prudhoe Castle, a ruined medieval English castle situated on the south bank of the River Tyne at Prudhoe, Northumberland.
Parking at Prudhoe Castle Car Park.
How it looked in its hay day.
And how it looks now.
With a nice bit of outdoor space and a pond.
Just a few miles to the West is Aydon Castle, with its own car park here. Aydon Castle, previously sometimes called Aydon Hall, is a fortified manor house at Aydon near to the town of Corbridge, Northumberland
It also has a model so you can see what it used to look like.
Another drive West we visited Housesteads Roman Fort - Vercovicium. Parking at the Housesteads Visitors Centre Car & Bus Parking.
Housesteads Roman Fort was an auxiliary fort on Hadrian's Wall. It is dramatically positioned on the end of the mile-long crag of the Whin Sill over which the Wall runs, overlooking sparsely populated hills. It was called the "grandest station" on the Wall and is one of the best-preserved and extensively displayed forts. It was occupied for almost 300 years.
