Saltburn to Skinningrove
October 2025

A Trig Point, Jetty, Pier and Tramway.

As part of Deb, John and Taffs “Motorhome Tour of the North” I decided to combine three previous Tiggy Tours and throw in a touristy hotspot too.

Parking at the pay and display Cat Nab Car Park in Saltburn, this route combines the Saltburn Trig Point and the Saltburn to Skinningrove tours with a little bit of the Saltburn Pier tour thrown in for good measure. After the Pier, for an extra bit of touristy-ness, we went up the Saltburn Cliff Tramway.

From the car park, cross the road to the seafront and head east for a nice view of Saltburn Pier. Checkout the Saltburn Pier tour for a bit more info on the pier and some pics of how it used to look before the end fell off.

Keep going along the seafront for a short distance by Saltburn Road, following the road past The Ship Inn and behind it, the pubs car park. The uphill path to take is just after the car park, on the right hand side of this pic below.

At this junction take the less steep track to the right. The path with all the steps is where the route heads back and is also covered in the Saltburn to Skinningrove tour.

Follow the track and then head through the fields and over the railway line up to the trig point at Warsett Hill. That part is covered in more detail in the Saltburn Trig Point tour, and from that tour, a pic of the trig point and the view.

And here is Taff posing near the trig point.

Heading from the trig point down Warsett Hill through a couple of fields and back over the railway line to the clifftops and the Cleveland Way. Turn right and follow the path south along the clifftops and down to Skinningrove. As you approach Skinningrove the Cleveland Way heads downhill to the beach, then from the beach head onto the Jetty.

This view inland from Skinningrove Jetty shows the next part of the route, not back up the steps to the Cleveland Way, but up the ramp straight in front, to the clifftops.

A couple of pics of how the Jetty used to look:

After clambering up the track and turning right to the top of the cliff you pass alongside the fence at the cliff edge by British Steel Skinningrove.

This view shows the Cleveland Way steps below which you head down to the beach via, but we decided to take a different route to get back onto the clifftops.

Now its just a case of following the Cleveland Way north to Saltburn, alongside the railway line. I was hoping for an action shot of a train here, but it wasn’t until we’d passed that point that a train arrived.

For all you train fans, here’s a train pic from the Saltburn to Skinningrove tour.

You’ll have to believe us here, this photo does kind of show Dolphins! One being the black dot in the middle of the pic. Too far to pick out with a mobile phone camera but we were lucky to see a few dolphins out to sea.

We continued to head west along the Cleveland Way footpath, along the clifftops and back to Saltburn and The Ship Inn.

Taff had a bit of a rest at The Ship Inn, he knew there was more to come.

With the hiking done and batteries recharged it was time to be a bit touristy and pay a visit to Saltburn Pier (and the arcades) and travel up the Saltburn Cliff Tramway.
