Rosedale Ana cross small loop
July 2025

The smaller loop over fields and moors.

This walk was originally planned to be longer, parking at this parking spot near Chimney Bank I’d seen during the Blakey Ridge Loop hike. I’d planned a bit more of a hike on the moors but the path up was marshy and heavily overgrown so I shortened it and planned a different route for another time.

The route is clockwise, following the road down into Rosedale Abbey before heading right along a track behind the White Horse Farm Inn. After following the track for a while it’s time to head uphill, firstly through fields but then through bracken and heather where it got tough. After getting to the top of the hill follow the track southwest over to Ana Cross and then heading back north to the road.

Leaving Tiggy on her own for a view over the valley. There are some better pics of her view at the end of the walk.

Follow the road downhill towards Rosedale Abbey, then turning right onto a track behind the White Horse Farm Inn, passing through its car park. Follow the track past some holiday cottages and Newlands Farm.

Keep following the track for around 3/4 of a mile, past Bank Farm and towards Sheep Dip. Turning off the track at a grassy footpath on the right and heading uphill through a field initially and then into the heather and bracken. This pic is looking back at Tiggy, a tiny white dot on the hilltop in the middle of the pic.

The uphill got wetter and more overgrown with bracken and heather. Even with the OS Map App I couldn’t find the path and was wading over heather and through bracken – very tiring.

Finally through all the bracken and on the top I found a track and followed it to Ana Cross on the horizon.

After following lots of nice, level track you can see Ana Cross in the distance. Keep following the track, there are a few little footpaths here and there that all tend to head to the cross.

After a short rest at the cross it was time to head back to Tiggy. The route back is much easier and level, follow the track north back to the road at the top of Chimney Bank, then follow the road downhill back to the parking spot.

Back at the car park I found Tiggy had made some friends whilst I’d been away…
